Future carbon sourcing
Be a market leader with future carbon credits that match your budget, de-risk procurement and drive positive impact.
Secure high-integrity carbon credits into the future
What is future carbon sourcing?
Future carbon sourcing is the process of buying carbon credits before they are issued. Instead of buying credits every year on the spot market, with future carbon sourcing you can fix your future supply and pricing. This can be done by supporting an existing project that meets our high standards and your company goals or - excitingly - you could invest in an early-stage project and be the catalyst for it to develop into a world-class nature-based solution. Your company legacy could involve the restoration of coastal mangroves, the protection of endangered peatlands, or the planting of a new forest.

Why future carbon sourcing with Earthly?

Lead
Finance the development of a new nature-based project, or securing the future of a high-integrity one. Partnering with an initiative that meets our rigorous standards means that your project will rank in the top 5% for quality and impact worldwide.

Secure
Reduce uncertainty in your future credits supply and ensure your chosen project will deliver on your timeframe and compliance needs. Simplify future credit procurement through our standardised contracts and due diligence process.

Optimise
Carbon credit pricing is rising, being driven by increasingly higher demand and a limited supply. You could secure cost-effective fixed-forward pricing, ahead of forecasted increases which are looking to reach $100/credit by 2030 (see graph above).
Driving quality in the industry
Meeting Earthly’s rigorous standards
To identify and develop world-class nature-based solutions, an effective, transparent assessment is required to analyse issues such as additionality, permanence, and ESG risks - in areas beyond just carbon.
Earthly’s industry-first, holistic assessment encompasses a unique scoring system that analyses 106 data points integral to high-quality carbon credit projects.

We leverage a mix of public, private and advanced data sources to screen and monitor each project. Our criteria and scoring process allows projects to be evaluated to show their potential to deliver on biodiversity and social impact goals, as well as carbon. This enables us to analyse the details of potential for benefits in sectors such as health, local employment and education.

Save the Brazilian Cerrado
Once a vast and thriving mosaic of forests, grasslands and wetlands, this Brazilian ecosystem is now disappearing at an alarming rate - its rivers running drier, its soils turning to dust. One of the most over-exploited regions in its country, wildlife here is at a tipping point.
An ambitious project is emerging to breathe life back into over 12,000 hectares of degraded land through community-led assisted natural regeneration. By planting only native species, the project is reviving the entire ecosystem, strengthening biodiversity, improving climate resilience, and restoring the delicate balance between people and nature.
But regeneration doesn’t stop at the roots. This project is also set to empower rural communities by financing solar panels for farmhouses to power the water pumps that sustain their crops. This means clean energy, water security, and economic growth, giving smallholder farmers the independence they need to thrive.
The vision is bold - to scale across millions of hectares, ensuring that this irreplaceable ecosystem does not become a memory, but a living testament to nature’s resilience.
The Brazilian Cerrado is the second largest biome in Latin America, and the most biodiverse savanna in the world, but it is in a precarious position.
Create a legacy by supporting the acceleration of this project.

Forgotten mangroves of Kenya
A dense, biodiverse network of intertidal forests has always supported local people and nature. However, human-caused climate change is now devastating Kenya’s coastal mangrove forests. Decades of deforestation, pollution and rising sea levels have led to habitat degradation and erosion which is reducing fishery productivity and releasing stored carbon into the atmosphere.
The area is calling out for community-led reforestation and assisted natural regeneration - and nature-based projects are bringing that to life for the local people and wildlife.
Kenya’s mangroves are among the most ecologically and economically valuable coastal ecosystems - serving as natural storm barriers, efficient carbon sinks, and critical habitats for marine and terrestrial species. Restored mangroves improve fish yields, support sustainable livelihoods, and generate high-integrity carbon credits. Effective carbon removal projects here will equip local stakeholders with the knowledge and tools for long-term ecosystem stewardship.
But it will require a partnership with progressive business leaders, who want to commit to long-term sustainability and a secure future for ecosystem services, enhanced habitat complexity and sequestered carbon in the mangrove forests.
This project offers a high-impact opportunity to support climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and see a community thrive.

General
Future carbon sourcing enables your company to secure a future supply of high-quality carbon credits that align with your values and sustainability goals. By locking in pricing today, you hedge against inflation, gain budget certainty, and give your finance team clarity for long-term planning.
Yes, many businesses take a blended approach, combining spot purchases with future sourcing to strike a balance between immediate needs and long-term planning. This strategy allows you to meet short-term climate goals while securing high-quality credits for the future, providing flexibility, price stability, and continued impact over time.
Origination means getting involved at the very beginning of a carbon project, often during the design and pre-verification stages, by providing upfront investment to help bring it to life, in exchange for access to the credits created once the project is off the ground. This early involvement gives you greater influence over the project’s direction, from location and methodology to social and environmental co-benefits.
Future carbon sourcing, on the other hand, involves contracting to purchase credits from a project once they are generated, regardless of whether you were involved in its development. It’s a way to secure access to future credits without taking on the same level of early-stage risk or commitment.
Carbon credit prices are expected to rise, in some cases by as much as 80%, due to several converging factors. Demand is growing rapidly as more companies commit to net zero targets and look for credible ways to address residual emissions. At the same time, compliance markets are expanding globally, tightening rules and raising the bar on what qualifies as a valid offset.
There’s also a major shift toward higher-integrity, nature-based and removal credits, which typically cost more to produce but offer greater long-term impact and reputational value. This tightening supply/demand dynamic, along with increased regulatory scrutiny and investor expectations, is driving long-term price growth across both voluntary and compliance markets.
Future carbon sourcing supports your net zero journey by securing a reliable supply of verified, high-quality carbon credits aligned with your business’ long-term goals. It complements internal emissions reductions by addressing hard-to-abate residual emissions, and provides a credible, forward-looking pathway to balance your footprint year after year.
