Rickshaw Travel is making every journey count

Through this initiative, Rickshaw Travel is helping to restore over 150,000 hectares of farmland in Kenya’s Upper Tana watershed. The project has planted over 3 million trees, improved water quality for 9 million people, and supports vital hydropower infrastructure. It also helps over 165,000 farmers boost incomes and improve livelihoods, especially among women-led households.

Iford Estate in the South Downs is turning degraded farmland into native woodland, boosting carbon capture and supporting over 1,000 species. The project also improves air and water quality, reduces flood risk, and creates public access. Rickshaw Travel’s support advances this nature-led effort and supports national climate goals.

Community-led forest management and native reforestation are at the heart of Rickshaw Travel’s support in Ejido Caoba, Mexico. The project combines selective harvesting, native tree planting and fire prevention to generate carbon removals, protect biodiversity, and strengthen long-term benefits for the local ejido community.

Rickshaw Travel is backing farmers across South Africa as they adopt regenerative land management practices that reduce emissions and build soil carbon. The project advances cover cropping, reduced tillage, improved water management and organic inputs, while sharing carbon revenue directly with participating farmers.

Rickshaw Travel is supporting the restoration of degraded peatland rainforest in Sumatra, Indonesia. By rewetting peatlands, preventing fires and protecting wildlife habitat, the project helps keep carbon locked away while supporting nearby communities through education, employment, water access and health initiatives.

Through this initiative, Rickshaw Travel have helped to plant magnificent mangroves in Maroalika, Madagascar. Mangroves store even more carbon than traditional forests and provide multiple benefits to coastal communities like storm protection and water filtration. Each tree removes around 308kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere throughout its life cycle.

In Sabah, Malaysia, Rickshaw Travel supports the protection of 83,381 hectares of tropical rainforest. The Kuamut project prevents further deforestation, encourages natural regeneration, protects biodiversity corridors, and creates local jobs, while improving access to healthcare, education and community development opportunities.

This initiative is helping over 51,000 farmers cut emissions, improve soil health, and boost incomes through regenerative farming like reducing synthetic fertilizers. Rickshaw Travel’s support helps scale this transformation toward sustainable agriculture.

Rickshaw Travel is supporting a pioneering seaweed farming project in Cornwall that’s removing carbon, restoring marine biodiversity, and producing sustainable materials. The initiative also boosts local economies through green jobs, eco-tourism, and education—helping build a circular economy for climate and community benefit.

Rickshaw Travel supports the protection of Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, a REDD+ project helping reduce deforestation in eastern Cambodia. The project safeguards threatened wildlife, supports Indigenous Bunong land rights, and improves local livelihoods through community-led development, ecotourism, sustainable harvesting and direct employment.
